Introducing VMware Cloud Services – A SaaS Journey

In 2018 , VMware continued rolling out Software as a Service (SaaS) offerings and cloud products. These are aimed to deliver a unified approach to end-to-end visibility, governance, and security for VMs and containers running in VMware based private and hybrid clouds, as well as across public clouds such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Some of the newly additions include VMware AppDefence, VMware Cloud Assembly, VMware Service Broker, CloudHealth ect. As of today, VMware Cloud Services & cloud products consists of following products/offerings:

All SaaS offerings from the above list, like VMware Cloud on AWS, VMware Cloud Assembly, ect.. are being referred to as VMware Cloud Services.

Furthermore, although these are not VMware official name umbrellas, subsets of these services are commonly being referred as follows:

Cloud Automation Services, which includes:

  • VMware Code Stream
  • VMware Cloud Assembly
  • VMware Service Broker

Cloud Operations includes:

  • VMware Cloud Automation Services
  • Wavefront by VMware
  • VMware Secure State
